The Department of Business and Financial Mathematics offers courses in Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science. Actuarial science is a multidisciplinary professional course concerned with the application of mathematics, statistical, probabilistic, computing and financial theories, models and skills to solve practical business and financial problems. These problems involve analysing future financial events, especially where the future payments and receipts involved have certain and uncertain timings. Other areas of interest to actuaries include health insurance, solvency measurements and assets-liability managements, mortality and morbidity investigations, enterprise risk managements as well as computer software development and security.
